104 West Main Street, Suite 1
Evansville, WI 53536
Walter E. Shannon is a litigation and transactional attorney with over 28 years of practice experience. He regularly handles matters that concern creditor rights and collection law, family law, business law, non-profit organizations law, real estate law, and estate planning/ probate matters. Walter has many satisfied clients. We encourage you to see what Attorney Shannon’s Clients and Colleagues are saying about him by clicking on the “Testimonials” bar on this page.
Along with his law practice, Walter has been a business executive for many years. He has also served as a board member for various businesses. The entities for whom Walter has served are often the economic anchors of the communities in which they are located. This non-legal service has helped Walter develop a keen awareness of the fact that every business has its own unique legal issues and limited resources with which to address them.
Business Law Practice
Walter is a business law attorney. He has served as in-house and outside counsel for companies of various sizes and fields. Walter has regularly assisted business owners in all aspects of business start-up including choosing appropriate business entities. He also provides legal services to businesses on such matters as taxes, contract drafting, stock transfers, and employment law matters. He has in-depth experience in the buying and selling of businesses, and regularly assists with business succession planning. Walter also litigates issues for his business clients.
Walter is a creditor’s attorney. A large portion of his practice involves work for clients that need to collect debts and accounts receivable. These discerning creditor clients demand an attorney that is an experienced expert in the collection law and bankruptcy law areas. They also want legal counsel that is there with them through the process by being readily available to answer their questions and concerns as they arise. At the same time, they do not want to be charged an arm and a leg for the service. Walter and his experienced staff deliver on that expectation. The individuals or businesses that have the accrued debts owed to Walter’s clients are often the client’s neighbors. This fact creates a strong need for discretion and practicality during the collection process.
Estate Planning & Probate Practice
Walter’s estate planning background includes more than two decades of planning and drafting of wills and trusts for clients. He has helped hundreds of clients and families address life issues, deal with death, resolve conflict, and leave a legacy. Walter teaches seminars to planning professionals, employers and the general public on various estate planning and probate topics. Walter works closely with clients and their families to create solutions. He also works regularly with clients needing to address guardianship issues as they arise.
Walter has successfully handled personal injury cases, probate disputes, contested divorces, and contested collection and bankruptcy litigation. His view is that a matter should be resolved by the parties first rather than have his clients face the expense, uncertainty, and stress of litigation. However, there are times when litigation cannot be avoided and must be vigorously pursued.
Real Estate Practice
Walter’s real estate expertise focuses on such areas as: commercial, residential and farm purchase and sales, leasing, zoning approvals, construction liens, and site condominium documentation. Walter has assisted many local business owners, farmers, and residents with real estate sales or purchases. Walter also assists sellers and buyers that may wish to use land contracts and leases with the option to buy as a means to sell or buy homes.
Committed to Home and History
Walter grew up in Milton, Wisconsin. He practiced law in Michigan before returning to his home area. He enjoys old cars, fishing, reading about history, traveling and especially spending time with his wife, Nancy Greve-Shannon, and their four children.
Walter also co-owns the John M. Evans Hall with his wife Nancy. Through their labor and the labor of countless friends and family members, this historical landmark was brought back from the brink of being demolished. This building now houses the law office, Emma’s table and the local Evansville theater guild. Here is link to the John M.
